Bass Yevgeny Nikitin Withdraws From Gergiev/Kirov Shostakovich Cycle at Lincoln Center

Bass Yevgeny Nikitin Withdraws From Gergiev/Kirov Shostakovich Cycle at Lincoln Center

Yevgeny Nikitin has withdrawn from his scheduled appearances as bass soloist with the Kirov Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under conductor Valery Gergiev at Lincoln Center on October 24 and 29.

Nikitin will be replaced by Gennady Bezzubenkov in Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14 on Oct. 24 and by Nikolai Putilin in the composer's Symphony No. 13 ("Babi Yar") on Oct. 29. These are the two final concerts in Gergiev's Shostakovich cycle at Avery Fisher Hall.

The conductor's cycle of the 15 Shostakovich symphonies, the first in New York, began last spring. The three upcoming concerts conclude Lincoln Center’s yearlong celebration of the composer's centennial.

All other scheduled soloists remain as previously announced.
