Tenor Marcello Giordani Gives Private Recital at U.S. Supreme Court This Evening

Marcello Giordani will give a private performance this evening at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

The tenor — who took the male lead in the Metropolitan Opera's Madama Butterfly at last fall's high-profile season opening — is singing at the special invitation of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The hour-long program includes opera arias by Verdi and Puccini and Italian songs by Leoncavallo, Mascagni and Tosti.

According to the Associated Press, Giordani has discovered ties with another member of the high court: the parents of Justice Antonin Scalia are originally from the tenor's hometown in Sicily.

Giordani begins another run of Met performances next Monday (February 19), as Gabriele Adorno in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra.
