Chicago Symphony's Label Schedules Third Release, First to Be Download-Only

Chicago Symphony's Label Schedules Third Release, First to Be Download-Only

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced the third release on its new record label, CSO Resound. The recording, of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, is the first to be issued strictly as a digital download.

Recorded during live performances at Chicago's Orchestra Hall in September 2006, the Shostakovich is conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, the Korean-American maestro who is currently chief conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

The new release will be available for download exclusively at iTunes for 60 days beginning on January 8; as of March 11, other digital music outlets such as Amazon.com, eMusic and Rhapsody will carry the recording as well. The price for the release is $7.99, which includes a seven-page booklet with notes and biographies.

CSO Resound was launched last May with a CD of Mahler's Third Symphony conducted by Bernard Haitink; the label's second release, of Haitink conducting Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, appeared in September. For more information on CSO Resound, visit www.cso.org/resound.
